WHAT'S LOADSTAR?
LOADSTAR is the longest running computer publication in the world, cranking out the finest in Commodore 64 entertainments since 1984. Games, graphics, music, programming tools, productivity programs, articles, even poetry and short stories!

What's A Disk Magazine?
A disk magazine is just like a regular magazine with a few exceptions. Obviously, the biggest difference is that a disk magazine comes on a disk and you read it on your computer. Each "issue" of LOADSTAR is full of interesting programs, complete with documentation that can be viewed on the computer or printed to paper.

Don't confuse a true disk magazine like LOADSTAR with a collection of programs saved to disk. The old COMPUTE!s Gazette Disk was a compilation of the paper magazine's type-in programs, accessed via a simple menu. LOADSTAR is a true electronic magazine with a cover image, articles, editorials, and everything else you would expect to find in a regular paper magazine. On top of that, you also get lots of cool programs, ready to enjoy, in every issue.

How Does It Work?
LOADSTAR comes in a variety of formats. Just like in 1984, LOADSTAR is still available on two double-sided floppy disks ready to go on your old 1541 disk drive. A 3.5" disk version for 1581 drives is also an option.
For users of the VICE emulator or 64HDD, LOADSTAR is also available in D64 and D81 disk image formats that are emailed to you when a new issue is released. This is the cheapest and, for many, the most convenient way to enjoy LOADSTAR.
KEEPING IT REAL
Living in rural Appalachia, it's easy to feel like I'm the only person in the world who still enjoys using Commodore computers. So, having that new issue of LOADSTAR arrive in my Inbox is always a special treat. I love to set aside a few hours, lock myself in my Geek Room, and dig into brand new Commodore 64 goodies. Reading the articles, playing brand new games, learning new programming techniques and getting new utilities that make using the C64 easier than ever-- what a reminder that the Commodore Community is still alive and kicking!
